I’ve been loosely following the emergence of AI artwork and I don’t know what to think about it. On one hand it’s amazing technology created by very talented engineers. On the other, I don’t feel creative using it. After all, I’m just writing a prompt. It’s like telling an artist what to draw, it’s never going to feel as creative as trying yourself.
Am I missing the point? Are people seeing it more as a utility (e.g. stock photography) than creative outlet? I don’t know.
I think Seth Godin made sense when he said:
If you’re a creator, you either have a style or you don’t. If you don’t, you’re simply a gig worker. And if you have a style, there’s a computer program that’s going to not only encourage people to copy your style, but expand it.
For some, this is going to lead to enormous opportunities in speed, creativity and possibility. For others, it’s a significant threat.
