Volvo has announced it will only sell electric vehicles in Australia from 2026. Volvo Australia’s managing director Stephen Connor said:
There is no long-term future for cars with an internal combustion engine.
It’s an important statement as Australia has lagged behind in uptake of EVs. There’s reasons for this (e.g. lack of reliable charging infrastructure), but this announcement is encouraging from a major vehicle manufacturer.
I’m looking forward to a greater selection of EVs in the market. Tesla’s are fantastic, but they’re too modern for my taste. I still prefer a tactile button or knob over a setting on a screen. I think the established car manufacturers will get this mix right.
