One of the best things about having kids is hearing what they say. When they aren’t telling you they’re bored or hungry, it’s often scattered with insightful gems.
The other night my eldest said to me before bed, “I lock my brain before I sleep so my thoughts don’t get out” while making a key turning motion on the side of his head.
It took me a hot minute to grasp the idea, and I had so many follow-up questions:
- What thoughts?
- Has this happened before?
- Why do you think they can escape?
- If they escape, where do they go?
But it was bedtime and he was tired, so the response was simply, “I don’t know, I just do it.”
Regardless, I still love that he thinks it’s possible and found a solution for it.
