I often watch TV with subtitles. I find it difficult to keep up with quick dialogue or strong accents (I’m looking at you, Shetland), so reading along makes it easier.
That’s for me, but what I didn’t realise was the benefits for kids.

Turning on the subtitles while children are watching television can double the chances of a child becoming good at reading.
That’s an impressive claim. Even if you don’t fully believe it, I can’t see the harm. It’s such a simple act and could have tremendous benefits for your children.
